SHAVING QUESTIONS

What's the best razor for me?

Let's start with your skin first! If your hair is fine, you're shaving very little after laser hair removal, or you're lucky enough to shave with no ingrown hairs, razor burn, or irritation, then you might prefer the Charlotte. One main difference between our Charlotte 2 blade and other razors is a higher quality blade. You'll find a razor that gives a great shave, and lasts longer than low quality, drugstore blades. Safety razor blades are not allowed in carry on luggage, so the Charlotte is also a great travel option!

If you find shaving has been an actual pain; ingrown hairs, razor burn, and rough, uneven new growth, the Carrie or Samantha is best. The shave is incredible (see our testimonials), and as the hair is correctly removed you'll find shaving is now an experience that leads to smooth skin, a dramatic difference in ingrown, and softer, more even new growth.

Can I cut myself?

As with any razor you may nick yourself. Don't let that scare you! Our customers tell us it's smooth sailing. Ok, we added that awesome pun. But really, there are two reasons we run the risk of nicks- we've been conditioned from years of pressing a razor into our skin in order to force a good shave, and we're shaving with dull blades. With our razors, there's no need for pressure. The weight of the razor and the incredible blade do all the work for you! See how it's done with our How To videos.

How do I use a double edge safety razor?

The two razor styles we offer are very easy to use. Unscrew the bottom of the Carrie razor, and remove the head of the razor, insert the blade, and tighten to close. On the Samantha razor, unscrew the head of the razor. Hold the razors at a 30 degree angle to skin, using only the weight of the razor, glide over skin in short strokes. Rinse, flip to other side, and repeat. See our How To videos for a great demonstration.

What is a double edge safety razor?

The double edge safety razor is designed with a guard between the blade and the skin to reduce the risk of cuts. It is, in fact, incredibly gentle on skin. The double edge refers to the 2 sides of the blade you can shave with. Double the fun and longer lasting razors!

Why do you recommend shaving with oil?

Our skin is delicate and shaving can be harsh. Shaving with oil provides an added barrier between the blade and the skin. Our shave oil is healing to the skin and can be left on after shaving, or used alone as a luxurious body oil. No matter what you choose, we recommend trying an oil. It makes a world of difference! Fun fact: shaving with oil also extends the life of the razor blade!

Will this help with ingrown hairs?

Yes. The problem with 3, 4, 5+ blade razors is that the first blade pulls the hair up and the other blades cut it below skin level. When the hair is cut below the skin it can grow sideways or re-enter the skin. A single, high quality blade gives a close shave without pulling, leaving you with the smooth skin you love minus the irritation.

What are the 3 steps to a great shave?

Begin with a warm shower to open pores. The follicle swells from the water, plumps the skin, and softens the hair, which is prime condition for a great shave. Shave at the end of your shower.

  • Exfoliating before shaving removes dry skin so the razor meets the best surface for a smooth shave. Think of your skin like a runway for the razor.  Smoother is better and your skin will love you for it.
  • Oui are big believers in the incredible benefits of shaving with oil. Our shave oil is made with ingredients that condition and heal the skin. Not to mention it smells amazing.
  • Shave with an amazing razor. What else can Oui say?

How often should I change the blade?

This really depends on how often you shave, the barrier used (oil, cream, or gel) and your personal preference. Each blade generally lasts 5-6 uses. Once you begin to feel a "drag" or less than a smooth shave, it's time to change the blade.

Why shave at the end of my shower?

A warm shower softens skin and opens up the pores. The hair follicle absorbs the water and in turn the hair is softened as well. It's helpful in achieving a smooth, irritation free shave.

RAZOR QUESTIONS

How long does the razor last?

With good care our safety razors last over 10 years. Yes, you read that right. Feel free to gift your mom, sister, aunt, and cousin Beth with the art of a luxury shave. Safety razors are built to last and our manufacturer guarantees theirs for at least 10 years. As a matter of fact you may have seen this razor in your grandmother's toiletry bag.

Can I keep my razor in the shower?

No problem. If you live in a very humid climate or close to the ocean, keep in mind these conditions cause even the best materials to rust quickly. Just keep it as dry as possible if you happen to fit the above.

Can I gift Oui Shave?

Of course you can! Be prepared for declarations of love and adoration by the giftee.
